I'm nearing the end of my MSc degree in Information and Communication Technology for Development at Royal Holloway, University of London. To write my dissertation, I'm conducting research in the Eastern Cape on a community-managed wireless network here.

It's been a great experience so far! For purely touristic reasons, the Wild Coast Region had been on our list to visit during our stay in South Africa. The area where I'm staying is a scenic, hilly area on the Indian Ocean. It's so nice, I'm almost feeling guilty being here for serious academic fieldwork. Of course, for many people in the area, it's no paradise; the region suffers from a lack of clean water, electricity, and affordable Internet access.
